"I turned to find that Peter had vanished - not so much into thin air as into thick mud - and was entombed, flat on his back, held captive by the weight of his pack. I tried to turn to make my way back to him, skating the first few feet and performing, as I did so, a quite astonishing triple axle followed by a near-perfect toe loop. I could just make out Peter`s arms and legs waving above the surface of the mud when suddenly, with a supreme effort worthy of a super-hero, he wrestled himself free from its black clutches with a sound like a giant sink plunger."
This hilariously funny book is a personal account of one couple`s Coast to Coast walk. What`s even funnier, is that one half of the couple was me!
It is obvious that at the time of writing this book a few years ago, my ex wife was an avid fan of Bill Bryson. Like many of Bryson`s books, it is crammed full of humour and wit. My ex wife kept a diary of the often hilarious events that happened to us along the way and as unbelievable as some of our exploits sound, they are all true!
An ideal read for anyone who has an ambition to tackle the Coast to Coast walk, has previously completed the walk or is simply a traveler who likes to take along a good read, its 96 pages will literally have you laughing out loud!
The book includes the encounters we had with the people we met, many of whom overtook us, along the way, some of the photographs we took, the ups and downs of the journey (forgive the pun)! and awe inspiring descriptions of the magnificent scenery we experienced along the 192 miles of Wainwright`s famous walk.
